1 Double Check

Explanation:

Here, in the below set of puzzles, we will try to use Double Check concept to win materials or checkmate

Example Puzzle:

White to Play

Here, in the above puzzle, White can play Qg7 scarifying the queen, After the black king takes the queen, White can play Nf5 double check forcing black king to play to G8 and then Nh6 checkmate.

2 Practice Puzzles

Instructions:
Try to solve the puzzles without moving the pieces.
Write down your solutions before checking the solution at the bottom

Puzzle Set:

  • Puzzle 1: White to move and win

White can play Qg7 scarifying the queen, After the black king takes the queen, White can play Nf5 double check forcing black king to play to G8 and then Nh6 checkmate.

Qg7 Kg7 Nf5 Kg8 Nh6#
  • Puzzle 2: Black to move and win

Black plays Re1 double check forcing white king to play to G2 and then black can play Rg1 checkmate.

Re1 Kg2 Rg1#
  • Puzzle 3: Black to move and win

Black gives Nf3 double check forcing white king to play to F1, then black can play Bd3, forcing white to play Qd3 and then Re1 checkmate.

  • Puzzle 4: White to move and win

White plays Rd7 to give a double check and after black king goes to F8, white can play Rf1 to do a checkmate.
